1.
Which version of the story was more
intriguing? Mysterious?
2.
In what way(s) was suspense created in the
video? In the story?
3.
Did changes/difference in the video from the
original story enhance the suspense and intrigue? Explain.
The version I found more intriguing was the video because it was more in depth to the story. Suspense was created each time Billy brought up the two men who were before him and when the landlady went up stairs to play the piano. Also the final moments in the clip when billy was drinking the tea and the landlady kept trying to give him more and more and more and more, yet the landlady didn't have any for herself seemed to be a little suspicious as well. Yes, the changes did make an impact on the way I viewed the story because the thing s I saw as confusing in the story became less confusing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with zachj5, the clip was way better than the story. The story was kind of confusing and hard to understand. In the story the land lady. The seems just really sweet and kind but the clip shows her facial expressions and body language which make things a lot more interesting because you can tell something weird is going on by her body language. The suspense was mainly in the body language. The differences in the video clip definitely made the story way better than the book.
DeleteThis version of the story I find more clarity about what happened in the time being when he asked himself about the names to himself. The landlady in this point of view I can see that she is more deceiving because she acted very kind and I couldn't see that in the book. When the video was starting to go towards the end I realized that she wasn't drinking any tea and even when he asked her if she was going to dink some herself she pretended that she was about to but when he looked away she put the cup back down. I still don't understand why he didn't catch any of the signs that she was very mysterious as if she was trying to hide something. Even though I could see the story more clearly I still am confused about many things that had happened before he joined the other two men.
ReplyDeleteThe video was more intriguing because there was more details in it. In the video suspense was created by the music that was playing in the back round and hearing that there was robberies. In the story suspense was created by the words that would be used. The added changes in the video added suspense because it added more details like the smoke in the streets and the back round music.
ReplyDeletethis video had more to it and the land lady was trying to throw him of the subject when he was trying to think of the names and he just couldn't think of them but she was rushing him and he started to understand what was going on when he seen the parrot and the dog and he started to think what was going on
DeleteIn this version of the story i figured out that the land lady is very pushy. when the man is trying to remember how he knew the names Christopher mullhullan and Gregory Temple the land lady got real nervous and kept changing the subject. When she gave him more tea he asked her if she was gonna drink any and she poured some in a cup and when he was looking at the parrot and the dog he thought was sleeping. when it was raining in the story she insisted he not leave until the rain quit so he didn't. when he tried to opened the door on the third floor i was completely lost.
ReplyDeleteI found the book version of this story the most intriguing. I did because if I reed a book I know what is happening in the main character's mind. In the story what happens last is up to the reader. In this version the audience is told what happens. Strangely, I found this version more mysterious. The music and the fact that it's in black and white makes it very mysterious. Suspense was created in the video by the creepy music and the dramatic pauses. In the book suspense was created at the end when Billy was drinking tea. I thought the story was fine just the way it was. I think the changes made in the video just made it longer and less interesting.
ReplyDeleteI found the video more intriguing then the story. The video made more sense to me then the story. The story did not give much description that Mr. Weaver died at the very end of the story. I think that the LandLady was very weard and I knew that she was going to do something to Mr. Weaver by how she was acting to him. I wounder why she wanted to kill him? I knew that she was lieing to him when she said that Mr. Molholland and Mr. Temple are staying there to because when she went to play music she locked the door so he would not know that they are not there. that is what i think about the movie vs. the story.
ReplyDeleteI found this video very intriguing than the story because the video you can see everything instead of picturing it in your head. Like when he signs the guest book and the coats. He drinks the tea and you can tell by the look on his face that the tea tasted funny cause he kinda made the face when you don't like something. When he comes in she shows him the room and then he has the guest book to sign and she gives him tea and it more. the suspence was when he came in and didnt see the coats or anything on the rack and he didnt think anyone live there.no change from the story to the movie cause it all came out the same and the movie was more to picture than reading it in your head.
ReplyDeletethe video was better than the story because the story never told how mr weaver died at the end of the story. and the movie told and how mr weaver died and really show the paroet and the dog stuffed. the landlady was really creepy in the movie. I new that the landlady was going to stuff mr waver. I thought mr weaver was just starring into space but he really dead.
ReplyDeleteI'm gana watch this when I get to my room.It would be really instering to see the three year old ghests and what they look like. And I also wonder if that lady ate their guts or how she stuffed em?I also wonder whats gana happen in the future like is it in their family and does the next oldest stuff her?The only bed an breakfast that im staying at is my grandmas and granddadys house!!
ReplyDeleteIn many ways, both the movie and the story were mysterious. However, I think that the movie was more suspenseful because the movie had illustrations and it was easy to follow, allowing us to easily enjoy it more. The suspense was created wonderfully by the movie by giving us illustrations and the sort of eerie soundtracks when something was wrong. In the story, the suspense was created when there was details and evidence that showed that there was something mysterious going on. The changes that were made in the video made the story more intriguing. The story was dragged out in a way that sort of pulled out the suspense a little bit and made a tension to the reader. In many ways, the person watching the video would have noticed the enhancement of the original story.
ReplyDeleteThe movie because she is always pushing things onto him such as the guest book & tea. Also her actions are very sensitive she is also very touchy towards his memory of the 2 past guests. In the movie she is much more strange and mysterious than in the book. She also keeps giving him tea but she never drinks it hmmmm. Billy is also 5 years older in the movie than in the book. She is truly strange and mysterious!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say that the movie was more intriguing and mysterious because it was hard to look away from it. In the movie suspense was created when the Landlady kept changing subjects whenever Mr.Weaver would talk about the two other guests. Also what was suspenseful was when, at the end the viewer wonders what will become of Mr.Weaver after he's been poisoned. Yet, in the story suspense was created when the Landlady answered Mr.Weaver's questions as vaguely as possible. Plus, the book didn't show the part in the movie where the Landlady spoke to the poisoned Mr.Weaver.
ReplyDeleteThe movie was more intriguing and mysterious than the book because the movie was easy to follow you could see the picture and follow what was said and what had happend. I couldn't understand why Billy had not realized the signs and things the land lady was saying. The land lady was very touchy, sensitive and wasnt responsive of what was said, she would change the subject. The land lady would also compel Billy to drink the tea. The suspense in the movie was when he was told Mr.Mohalin and Mr.Temple were still there on the third floor. But when Billy first walked in the door there were no jackets or hats. There was really no changes or diffrences in the video from the original story. Everything was basically word from word in the book and in the movie. I mean some tiny things were diffrent but other than that everything was practicually the same.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed to me that the movie was more mysterious and painted a picture more visualy than reading the book because at the end of the book, it didn't mention the part when the Landlady was going to stuff him, like she did to her pets. The end of the movie told the whole story, while the book left the reader able to imagine what she possibly did next. Overall, both the movie and the book were awesome.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the movie was more intriguing. This is because you can see peoples facial epressions when they say things and with creepy music in the background it intensifies the suspense. Suspense was created in the story by the woman opening the door so quickly after he rang the doorbell. Also by there being no other coats on the coat rack when he got there. The changes from the video and the story make it intese because in the video you can see how they interact with eachother and in the book you can only read about it.
ReplyDeleteI found the video more intriguing because of the creepy music before he went into the bed and breakfast, how the landlady talks, and the smiling landlady and the worried looking Mr. Weaver. Suspense was built up by how fast the landlady answered the door, the creepy music, how the landlady had taxidermy animals, how she spoke, how there were no other coats or people in 2 years, and most strange, how Mr. Weaver was sweating the whole time. the video also gives more dialogue and hints as to what the landlady would be like, and how the end was prolonged to see him die.
ReplyDeleteI found that the movie was more mysterious and creepy. You could see the faces and the setting of the story. You could also see the expression on the landlady. The suspense built up by the background effects, the facial expressions, how fast the landlady answered the door, and just how kind of creepy the setting of the story is. The difference between the book and movie created suspense because the movie finished they story for you. It showed how everything happened, where as in the book, it left the reader wondering. Overall, they weren't any major differences between them.
ReplyDeletei found out that the movie of "the landlady" was better than the book. when the landlady told billy about Christopher and temple, he felt disturbed and confused and dazed about where he heard those names were from. billy saw the parrot and the dog and all of a sudden he looked dazed and knocked out like a light. billy was great at the bar he saw the landlady's house stayed the night and felt deathly afraid of everything he heard and seen the moment he got in. will billy be ok?
ReplyDeletei found out that i actully like the story more than the movie because it gives more explanation of wat is happening in the story. in the part were the man sees the parrot is more explained than in the story.
ReplyDeleteI found out that the Landlady movie was better than the book because it shows a visual of what happend. when he heard christopher and temple he tried to reconize those names but he couldn't. When he saw the dog and the parrot stuffed he thoght he was going to get stuffed. He got poisoined and the Landlady stuffed him. It was a weired story.
ReplyDeleteI thought the video was more intriguing because it was easier to understand but the book was more mysterious when I read it a second time, it included more detail, like the thoughts of the characters, than the movie and you had to actually pay attention to figure it out. suspense was created by the video from the music and the way the characters acted out there part with the facial expressions and emotions, the book created suspense by giving the reader little hints as to what was going to happen to Billy, and also making the landlady seem really odd like she was hiding something. The things the video added didn't really help, and i noticed they got some of the lines backwards from what the book said and they spread things out a lot so they would seem longer, I think in all that I liked the book better than the video
ReplyDeleteI thought that the movie version of The Landlady was more intriguing and mysterious. This was because of the sound and visual affects. The creepy music made the movie more suspenseful. I also thought that the added scenes created more of a mystery. I liked how the Landlady played the organ in the room and Billy went to open the door but it was locked. That made another question as to why she locked the door. Lastly, I enjoyed how the movie told the untold that the book did not, like what happened after he drank the tea and what she did to his body. The overall changes in the movie made the whole story more intriguing for it added on to the mysterious plot.
ReplyDeleteI personally found the movie to actually end up being more intriguing than the book. The suspense was created in the movie by the music that was played throughout the entire video; the added scenes that were in the movie and not in the story also added a mysterious and intriguing suspense to it. Yes, I do believe that the changes that were in the movie, but not in the story, enhanced the suspense levels. This conclusion was made because in the movie we had to guess what the characters were like and how they reacted. In the movie we actually had the privilege of seeing how the characters reacted to different scenes, instead of guessing. Also I believe that the story was dragged out a bit longer in the movie, whereas in the actual story it was not. This being done, we got an ending instead of the author allowing our minds to create one for us.
ReplyDeleteI like the movie better then the book because you could understand it better because you can see it happening easier than reading it. In the book it does not say Billy dies but in the movie you see him freeze (die) from drinking the potion.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the book story is more intriguing only because it was read first but if we where to watch the video first it mite have been a little bet more intriguing. There was some differences in story. That there me off at some parts. But I did think the story was interesting to see in real life. The video was also more intriguing to see in real life. The video also made more sense at some points in the video.I enjoyed watching the video a little bit more than the book story.
ReplyDeleteI believe the video was more intriguing and mysterious than the book. In the video suspense was created by music in the background. In the book the suspense was created in the actions the people made. I think that the video and the book each had mysterious parts that were more intriguing than others. Such as in the video you see billy die which is more informative than in the book when you only here whats happening and not seeing it. Therefore I believe the video was more mysterious and intriguing than the book.
ReplyDeleteI found both the story and the video intriguing and mysterious, but I feel that the video was more intriguing. In the video I was able to see the scenes of the book more clearly. I was able to see how weird the Landlady acted; in the book I wasn't able to see how the Landlady acted as clearly as I did in the video. I found it interesting to see how the Landlady acts too nice, seeing the stuff pets, and seeing the Landlady keep offering Billy tea. I found it surprising that Billy hadn't gotten any of the weird clues or strangle things the Landlady did and suspect that something was wrong. I found the video more cooler because I was able to image how the Landlady acted and we got to see Billy die while in the story we were only able to imagine it. Therefore I believe the video was more intriguing and mysterious than the book.
ReplyDeleteI think the landlady movie was more mysterious than the book because in the book it described what she did but in the video you can see what she was doing you can tell her emotions. In the movie Mr. Weaver could not see the strange things about the landlady like her stuffing all of her died pets and you could tell on his face the tea tasted unoriginal. I found the movie more intriguing because you could tell the actor/actresses emotions by the look on their face and by their body language. that is why i thought the movie was more intriguing than the book.
ReplyDeleteComparing the video to the story I noticed that the video was more intriguing and mysterious because of the many more details the video included, such as seeing the landlady's stuffed pets, which indicated that she knew how to preserve dead bodies. From seeing the video I infered that she also stuffed Mr. Mulholland and Mr.Temple after they died. The way(s) suspense was created in the video is that Billy was aware that both men died in the same location, and as the video progressed, Billy knew thet Mr. Mulholland and Mr. Temple had both stayed in her home. In the book, the reader never found out that the landlady murdered Mr. Mulholland and Mr.Temple. The differences in the video enhanced the intrigue and suspence in the story by adding sound effects and instruments that included much bass to add a thrilling feel.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the story and the video were both very intriguing and mysterious, but the video had a little more intrigue and mystery to it.. I think because in the video, you have music and different tones the characters use so the viewers interpret the suspenseful story. One way the suspense is built up and created in the video was with the way the Landlady always wanted Mr. Weaver to drink the tea she poisoned so she could add him to her "collection of pets" upstairs. In the story, suspense was built up and created by the author trying to help the reader visualize the story by certain emphasized lines such as, "no, only you" that create the suspense and suspicion. Changes and differences in the video from the original story did enhance the suspense and intrigue because the sound effects and music in the video helped you understand something was going to happen to Mr. Weaver that he didn't know about himself. Also, in the video, you can see emotions in the characters and they look more suspicious than the text could ever make the characters through words.
ReplyDeleteThe video was more mysterious than the story. The video looked very old. They both have an unknown ending to me. I liked the video more than the story.
ReplyDeleteI think the movie was more intriguing and mysterious than the book. Suspense was created in the movie through the background music and with the fact that you could actually see the characters' expressions and emotions. In the story, the author built suspense when the Landlady kept changing the subject and offering tea to Billy when he was trying to figure out where he had heard the names of the two guests before him. In my opinion, it was less difficult to understand what was really going on in the movie, whereas in the book the reader had to visualize the events and action in their own mind. Changes in the video from the original story did enhance the suspense, such as when the Landlady played the piano and when she told Billy that he should meet Mr. Temple and Mr. Mulholland. These, along with the background music, gave the movie a sort of strange feel that the book just didn't have.
ReplyDeleteThe Landlady was very intriguing, but I found the movie most intriguing. Mysterious actions were equally distributed in each version.Suspense was transformed throughout the movie by the music that was chosen. suspense was created throughout the story by the authors choice of words and description of the landladies action. Because I have been told the true actions of the Landlady, the movie version really enhanced my vision of her actions, and her words than the original. When Billy tried to figure out where and when he had heard the two mens name, it wanted me to know what happened to the men too. The ending of the two copies were totally different because the movie gave us the viewer an insight on what happened at the end story. The book ended on an odd choice of words.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that the movie was more intriguing than the story. Suspense was created by the Landlady going upstairs to play the piano and then locking the door. Also, she always changed the subject like in the book when Billy was talking about the two men in the newspaper. Suspense was also created by the music and emotions of the characters. I think that the video really made the story easier to understand, like in the book it didn't say that Billy had frozen in place and died. It just ended on "Only You". All in all, I like the movie more and the changes that they made to the story and adding just a tad more of suspense.
ReplyDeleteI think the movie was more intriguing than the book. The movie had suspense by the expressions Billy and the Landlady made and by the music in the background at times. In the story, the author created suspense by going into large detail about how creepy the Landlady was and when she kept changing the subject by asking Billy if he wanted tea. The ending of the story and the movie were completely different because in the book the author didn't tell you what the Landlady did with Billy's body, but the movie showed you what the Landlady did and said to Billy. The movie also gave all the viewer's more insight about the Landlady and Billy.
ReplyDeleteI found the story to be much more intriguing and mysterious then the video. In the story, enough description was given to outline the story, but left enough to the imagination to let me make the story my own. Suspense was created through vivid adjectives. Where as suspense in the video was created through music and visuals. The video did have a suspenseful feel, especially at the end when the man died and the landlady thought nothing of it. However, I felt that the video placed me in a forced perception of the characters and story line. Avid readers often say that when a book is made into a movie, the book is always better. This is due to the reader being forced into the director`s idea of the book. The Landlady is no exception. Although there is nothing wrong with the video, the book leaves the reader to make there own conclusion and, in my opinion, more intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the video was more intruing than the story due to added effects. The visual effects made the video more suspensful, as did the setting of a dark, stormy night with thunder and the mysterious, creepy music in the background. The story, on the other hand, used great adjectives to desribe everything in great detail and bring the reader more into the story. In the video, I liked the addition of Billy starting to peice together the puzzle, unlike in the story, but I don't like how hte movie told you the ending because some people, like me, prefer to create their own endings in stories like these. Though the story was great, I feel that the video drew the viewer more into the story than the book did, which made something creepy all the more creepier.
ReplyDeleteI think both the book and video was mysterious, but the fact that in the video you were able to see scenes more clearly in the video compared to the book, like being able to Billy die. then also I was able to see and hear in the video how the landlady acted and how Billy reacted to her. like when Billy tried to remember the two names and where he heard them from. Plus adding the creepy music helped set the theme of the story better than the book. All in all even though both the video and book were mysterious, I think the video pulled out on top to be the most intriguing out of the two.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the video was more intriguing than the story because of the way that the sound effects make it sound strange and mysterious and the setting of the story that makes it creepy to the people who are watching it. But, the main topic of what makes it strange and mysterious is that how the landlady talks about how she stuffs her little animals when they pass away and about the two men who been on the same floor together. The most important thing that I think about the video is that it shows more details and shows more of the important views of the video. In the video, I like the way that how Billy was trying to figure out about if he realized those names and the landlady was trying to get him on her road so she can poison him.
ReplyDeleteI think that the video was intriguing than the book is because it helped me understand the story line better than the book did.suspense of the video was that it had sound effects to it and I could actually see what the landlady and billy actually looked like it helped me a lot. The things that changed was thar they have more detail to it and I could see what it actually was about. It had a lot of different things in the video than in the story.
ReplyDeleteThis version of the story was better than the book because it brought more feeling you could see how the land lady act around billy she kept talking about the tea she kept asking billy just drink it with out asking what it was made of and billy was a rule follower the whole time that why she picked billy to live there so she can poison him in the ending.
ReplyDeleteWhile both the video and story are intriguing in their own way I found the story to be a bit more mysterious. A big part of mystery is not revealing everything, well in the video the Landlady was more straight forward with her plan. She said things like "they are both upstairs" even though she had previously said, "the house is all to ourselves" which lead Billy to question what she really was doing earlier on than when he figured everything out at the end of the story. The story created greater mystery by leaving the ending open whereas the video explains what happens to the landlady in the end. Also I feel as if the stories Landlady was more "in character" the the videos, because for a lady who is trying not to get caught as being a cold blooded killer, she sure left a lot of hints to Billy that she was one. Although the video did do a better job than the book when showing how the Landlady didn't want Billy to find the connection between the two names,it showed her cutting into Billy's train of thought more than the book did. The video just seemed very watered down from the story which is why I believe the story is more intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThe story and the book were both mysterious, however, I think the video was more intriguing. The video brought more suspense as it visually showed the creepiness of the landlady. The mysterious actions she did toward Billy made the audience want to watch more as the video dragged out the story. In the video Billy's stay was longer, unlike the book which occurred in one day. This brought a feeling of when will she give him the poisoned tea. Overall, the video brought more suspense to the original book, "The Landlady."
ReplyDeleteI think whaching the video is very intersting; if I did not read the book I would not know much about the story about the Landlady. I love reading something than seeign it on a screen. It just makes it more exciting to see how the character's reacted in a video or in movies and also the sounds in the background, The reason I liked the video was because you got to see how the Landlady acted around Billy and how it made it scary to here the music and thunder in the backround.
ReplyDeleteThe story and the book were very mysterious although I thought that the book was more mysterious. The story was more intriguing/mysterious because it was difficult to visualize. Everybody had there own opinion about what the landlady looked like and etc. Truthfully I did not expect the movie to be like this at all. The movie was not very different from the book. In the end of the book when the land lady says "No my dear only you" I pictured that scene to be more creepy but in the movie she was acting all innocent and nice. Overall, I thought that the book brought more suspense to the story then the movie did.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the video was much more intriguing than the short story. Reason being that when reading a story, you can only see what you can imagine. However, in a video you can analyze and take in much more of the interesting details. In the story suspense was mainly made when Billy mentioned the mysterious names. Although, in the video, suspense was built up when the landlady locked herself in the room with the other two men and played music, and when Billy kept on mentioning the names while the landlady was changing the subject. Changes in the video from the story definitely enhanced the complete experience, suspense, and intrigue. Whenever someone reads a story, they generally think mostly of what the characters look and sound like, but in a video, the viewer can experience those things along with the setting and music that sets the tone very well.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the written story more, but I think the movie was more suspensful because in the movie, you watched Billy die. I liked the book more because it took a little longer to take in and because there were so many ways the end of the story, and after the story could be taken. Suspense in the movie was created when the music was played, and when Billy found out she stuffed her "pets" when they died. Changes from the story to the movie made the plot a little more detailed, gave a little more insight into who Billy was, and made it more intriguing and suspensful. This is because with Billy, whose expressions you could see, you could tell he was just figuring out as he was dying. Also, the video went a little past the ending in the written version and now you know what Billy's fate will be.
ReplyDeleteI found the movie more mysterious and intriguing because you actually got to see what happens. In the movie suspense was created by showing the suspenseful scenes and and clips. The story created suspense by giving details that were very mysterious and intriguing. The difference from the story and movie did enhanced the suspense by showing the suspenseful parts and playing spooky music.
ReplyDeleteI find that the video was much more intriguing, rather than the story. The video helped me get a better understanding. It was easier than picturing it while reading it, so it was more interesting and more mysterious. The suspense in the video was created by the music playing and the fact that it was in black and white. Also seeing their expressions and actions made it more suspenseful, then having to imagine what they looked like. In the book the suspense came from wanting to know what would happen and thinking about it before you read it. The biggest difference to me was the video was more descriptive and explaining. It was easier to follow along with. The ending also was well explained and made more sense.
ReplyDeleteI thought the story and the video were both strange and mysterious in their own way. For example in the story it states that the Land Lady answered the door in a second and in the video she was more pushy to get Billy to drink the tea. Suspense was created in the video when the Land Lady was talking about how she stuffs all her pethat have died, and how she mentioned how Mr. Mulholland, and Mr. Temple were still at the hotel and that they are on the 3rd floor. But it was mysterious that the Land Lady kept their coats and hats then put then on the hooks when Billy wanted to see and talk to them. The difference in the video and story did not enhance the suspence because the readers already knew what was going to happen in the video because the already read the story.
ReplyDeleteThe version I found more mysterious and better was the movie. The movie version of the landlady had more detail to me and i could in vision what i had read in the story. Also it added more to make the movie more interesting! More suspense was added into the movie by for example, when Mr.Weaver got poisoned he started freezing up and finally died and got brought up to the others. The movie also added moments into the story that wasn't there in the book version. The changes in the movie did up lift in suspense to the story because now there was dramatic scenes
ReplyDeleteBoth the book and the movie were very intriguing, but I found the movie to be a bit more mysterious and intriguing. I think this because she says very creepy things that make you jump to conclusions such as "appearances can be deceptive, can't they dear" this is creepy and suspenseful because she looks just like a nice hospitable bed and breakfast owner but she turns out to be a serial killer. Suspense was created in the movie by the tone of the landlady and her actions. She always was trying to make him drink some (poison) tea. Suspense was created in the short story by the little details the author puts in such as about how the tea tasted of bitter almonds (arsenic). I don't think that the video intrigued me more than the short story by very much, yet I do think it helped me understand the story line and plot much more than the short story. As you know I didn't even know she was a serial killer until you told us in class, but now I definitely know what this crazy lady is doing!
ReplyDeleteI thought that the story and video were both strange and mysterious because they both had the same aspects and theme and storyline but the video showed him dieing I know a book cand do that but it could of exsplained how they die from the poisen in the book since they don't mention that they died from poisen in the video. the video is more intriguing because I doesn't show everything the book did but it had stuff the book didn't.
ReplyDeleteI think the book version of the story was more mysterious because it had more details. While the video dident have alot of detalis to make it very mysterious and they rushed it. But there was alot of suspense because the land lady was creepy and weird.
ReplyDeleteI found the book more mysterious because there was more details in the house and the landlady. But the in the video the audience is able to see the facial expressions of the characters and the music in the background also sets the tone which also makes it suspenseful, and in the book you kind of just have to imagine how they are reacting.
ReplyDeleteI found the video more mysterious because we already new what was happening in the book. but we didn't know that he was go to die in the movie because in the book it didn't finish. but the movie was a lot creepier. The movie gave me a better picture of what was going on. The book just had me thinking if he was dead or not that's why I like the movie better.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the written story and the video production of "The Landlady" were both very intriguing and mysterious, I believe that the video provides the viewer with more mystery. The term mystery refers to something that is difficult or impossible to explain. In my opinion, the video portrays more unexplainable events than the book. For example, in the video, the viewer is curious about why the landlady is so strange and seems almost as if she is plotting something against Billy. while in the book it is more less obvious that the landlady is strange or even has plans to do something to Billy. However, the video and the book both portray great suspense. The book drew out suspense by showing how the landlady said that Christopher Muholland and Gregory Temple never actually left her inn. While in the video, the director went even further on the topic by showing how the landlady put the fake coats on the coat rack and suggesting that Billy should meet the other guests. The video also went further with the suspense when Billy confronted the landlady by asking her why she earlier said they had the place all to themselves if they did not. Another reason why I prefer the video of the landlady, is due to the added changes that enhanced the suspense and intrigue from the original story. Multiple examples of this where the ominous scenery/set that the production was filmed on, the captivating background music and the wonderful and realistic expressions portrayed by the actors in this video. Also, Alfred Hitchcock drew out the time that Billy stayed at the Bed and Breakfast, therefore drawing out the suspense. Plus, he added many scenes and details to the video that weren't in the book. Such as the landlady almost forcing Billy to drink the tea, or the scene in which Billy writes a letter to a friend addressing where he is and the landlady's strange behavior (only for the landlady to not deliver it) and the scene in which Billy dies and she prepares to stuff him like the others. In conclusion, I believe that the video of "The Landlady" presented by Alfred Hitchcock provides more intrigue and suspense to the story the book does not have.
ReplyDeleteI think the movie is more suspenseful for three main reasons. The first case of suspense occurs when the landlady says " appearance can be deceptive, can they dear" this is an example of irony because the audience knows something bad will happen to Billy, but Billy doesn't know what will happen. The second case is when the landlady tries to force Billy to drink the poisoned tea. But once again Billy doesn't know that the tea Is poisoned. The third and final case is when Billy finally drinks the tea and he begins to slow down and eventually freezes. When this happens we understand that Billy has been killed by the "sweet old landlady".
ReplyDeleteThe version I found more mysterious was the video. I found the video more mysterious because it gives you more of a visual image of the story rather than the book. Also the video has more moments where you can think about what’s going to happen next and gives more information than the book. The book doesn’t really show anything and doesn't really let you know what the "sweet" landlady is, rather than in the book it shows that she does something to the boys drink and that she killed him and tells more of a backstory in the video rather than the book just telling a story without a story in front and behind it. The video gave me those oh my gosh moments rather than the book just confusing me.
ReplyDeletethe version that i liked the most was the video more because it was easy to see it then have to think what it looks like when reading the story. The suspense is every time after Billy filled his name it the book and said Christopher Muholland and Gregory Temple name trying to think who they were. the difference in the story then the book was when she showed that all 3 of there jacket were still there.
ReplyDeleteI found the book more intriguing because I always like to read books more. When I read the book it felt like I was actually there while everything was happening. It was mysterious because of the way that the Landlady acted around Billy when he asked about the other two names in the book. Suspense was created in the book when Billy kept asking about the other two names and the Landlady kept changing the subject. Suspense was then created in the video when the Landlady made sure Billy drank all of his tea while she didn't drink any herself.
ReplyDeleteThe video was a way better version of "The Landlady" than the book was. In the video it's way easier to follow than in the story because you have a visual picture of what's happening. Also, you can see her body language so you know something's going to happen next. In the video he also added details that he didn't have in the book. Therefore, the video clip was by far better than the story of "The Landlady".
ReplyDeleteI liked the book more because it produced more detail and flowed much better. I can tell what is happening from all points of view in the book. You could tell in the book that she changes the subject a lot and very good at controlling people. The book also seemed creeper and more full of suspense.
ReplyDeleteI liked the book more because it produced more details and it was a lot more explanation. you could tell better on what was going on, in the video you couldn't really tell. the book also build more suspense.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the movie more than the book because it seems to make the landlady more of a realistic person, were in the book she feels more of a serial killer figure. The book is more suspenseful than the movie because Alfred Hitchcock does a great job of adding dark humor, while Dahl tries to leave of the story on a creepy note. I think changes in the video makes it less dark and mysterious because of the actors and the way Alfred Hitchcock tries to add elements of humor.
